![]() A couple of guys switched off using the sod cutter. The area was mostly bentgrass at approach height, but there was also a small area of bluegrass rough and a very small area of bentgrass green. We had about an acre of sod to cut and only 1 Ryan Jr. Cutting the sod proved to be a mammoth task. We wanted to keep the project budget to a minimum, so we tried to save as much of the original sod as possible. The growing season was practically over so we knew the only way to get all the bare soil covered through the winter was to use sod. 200’’ it was not perfect but performed well enough for the period we needed it. We scalped down an area in the fairway about 125 yards away from the original green. We did not want to close so the first task was to create a temporary green. Finally, we were going to add some greens sand to the front middle of the green to make that spot a pin able location.Īlthough it was the middle of November we were still expecting some minimal play. The architect also planned to shape add some subtle mounding to the final grade that would divert balls one way or the other to avoid having them land in the same spot. The plan was to push all the dirt from the bunker mounding into the collection area and raise the grade 4’ in that location. The architect was going to come back for a day or two to help us carry out the project. ![]() The goals of the project were to solve the collection area issue and to make another pin location on the green in the front middle. It just sloped too much off the front of the green and into the collection area to put a pin there. Second, in the front middle on the green surface was not a pin able area. No matter where you hit the ball if it landed in front of the green on the right it would likely end up in the same 10' circle that was riddled with divots from previous golfers. One was that there was a collection area in the front right of the green in the approach. There were a couple problems with it that slowed play. It is a tall plateau style green with a pot bunker guarding it front and center, and two fairway bunkers off the front left side of the approach. In November 2015 we got the go ahead to renovate our 15th hole.
